Anyone have any idea when the Danielson Famile will be playing again? My room mate and I saw them in Brooklyn this fall, and it was the greatest concert we ever saw. It had everything we could ever hope for in music. We'd be willing to travel to see them. I'm hoping they'll play when my sister comes to visit me and I can introduce her to some great music.

Any word at all?

(Oh, and if anyone knows anything about upcoming Sufjan concerts. I know he played here last night, but it was just a few songs.)

Br. Danielson - Brother:Son

I've been listening to this all week. It isn't the best Danielson record but damn, it's good. Being Christian clearly gives Daniel Smith's music a focus and clarity that most people just don't have. Lyrically this is probably the strongest Danielson record yet but musically it's a little lacking. Because it's Br. Danielson (and not the full Famile) it's typically scaled back, but oddly enough most of the songs still feature a pretty wide array of performers. Many of the more rowdy songs lack the power of the full Famile and leave me wanting that more than what I'm given. The quieter songs, however, are incredible... especially "Hammer Sitting Still", about his experience building houses with his Dad:

"Oh I now see there is freedom in the working with your hands. I've read 'justice is the measure, righteousness the plumb line.' When I finally have my hammers and they are sitting still I'll still have my construction humor. It is set in this ol' stone. So when will I finish this job and move on to what I love? I feel so ready, but I'll get up now... It is good.

They're just so GOOD. You can't deny the amount of love they have and it comes through in the music. He gives gifts of loving love, just like his pappa.

"To tell you all the truth the son can only do what he sees his pappa do."

Br. Danielson - "Brother Is To Son"

I have just finished listening to an advance release of the album I received today. I don't have time at the moment to go into much detail but I will say that on first listening it is Danielson's most mature, well developed album to date. The richness of the atmosphere contained within this 10-track album of personal self-discovery will surely render chills of amazement to any Danielson fan and will bring tears at the same time. This is Daniel Smith at his most raw, he's cut deep within himself to produce this album of heartfelt love and passion.

03. Animal In Every Corner
04. Daughters Will Tune You

striking gold!
Sounds Familyre is home to my new happy find (that is, a find with which I am tremendously happy): Sufjan Stevens.

Thank you, Bro. Danielson, for facilitating (in part with Asthmatic Kitty Records) the output of this lovely man's work.

'Greetings From Michigan, The Great Lake State' = fantastic.

News from Daniel

1. I have my first Bro. Danielson 7" out now. "The Kid" + "Five Stars and Two
Thumbs Up" out on Secretly Canadian...check the store at
www.danielsonfamile.com...$4... come on break out the turntable.
2. Sufjan Stevens "Seven Swans" CD/LP is being released March 16 on
Sounds Familyre, and in Europe it will be released on Rough Trade. Sounds
Familyre will have a pre-order for the album around mid-February at
www.soundsfamilyre.com, I'll let you know.
3. I am so happy to announce that Ken is taking over the webstore and other
various Sounds Familyre matters. I will now say I am so sorry for all the
people this past year who have waited 4-6-8-10-12 weeks for the orders to
get to you. All I can say is I was doing way way too much and for now on
things will be much more professional. Sorry.
4. Also I am so happy to announce that Jon (of Soul-Junk fame and my
brother-in-law) has joined the Sounds Familyre forces. Welcome Jon.
5. I am now working hard finishing up the Bro. Danielson- "Brother is to Son"
CD/LP. It is growing out of me remodeling peoples houses by day with my
dad. Then I go home and record the ideas I got that day. It's happening at a
slower pace than I'd like, but it seems to be the right pace. Hoping for a late
spring release date.
6. And finally Paul Goode is going crazy on rebuilding the Sounds Familyre
site. It is gonna be great with bloggers for every artist and an updated news/
shows page and updated store and much more goodies.
7. Sounds Familyre 2004- New Sufjan Stevens, Bro. Danielson, Woven Hand,
Dan Zimmerman, Lenny Smith, Singing Mechanic and much more.
8. Today I turn 32 years old. There's no turning back now.

Love, Daniel

The Danielson 7" is fantastic and all of you must buy it immediately. In addition to buying it from Sounds Familyre you should be able to pick it up soon from Secretly Canadian.

Happy Birthday Daniel, we all love you...

Acid reflux has got me now.
It wasn't even my birthday.

Bloody Blood Blood
Does anyone have any info on when the new albums will be coming out? I'm a member of the yahoo group run by the band but they haven't given much specific information about release dates. "Bloody Blood Blood" is the next Famile album and apparently portions of proceeds will be donated to the red cross (!). Can't wait to hear the other new stuff, too. Anyway, somebody fill me in!

Hello. I am new to both this group and LiveJournal in general. Just wanted to express my love for Brother Daniel. I have only had one opportunity to see them live- opening for Shellac in New Jersey. I forget why I didn't go, but everytime I throw on any of their albums I kick myself for it.

Hello famile. I need your help.

Since their mp3s are so scarce, I've been looking for their records around Athens but haven't been able to find anything.

They sell their records on Amazon, but I'm such a poor student, is there any kind person that would like to burn me a copy of Fetch the Compass Kids?
I have many albums, I would definitely trade you for it. Plus I will love you forever.

Thanks, kids.

i love the danielson famile so much!
I am listening to song number 5 on fetch the compass kids and I am so happy that my heart is leaping into my throat.
Danielson famile is the best band ever. I like them almost better than rasputina.
Danielson is such a great band because there are so many instruments, it's a creative band, the lyrics are really fun as well as having meaning.
I want them to come to vancouver BC again so much!
I just want to dance.

Right now I am deciding if I want to go to Africa for 14 months to volunteer teaching people about HIV prevention.

this is my danielson post: "i love my lord, i love my lord"
Last autumn, I had the pleasure of seeing Brother Danielson play (as the Danielson Fruit Tree - BD inside a well-constructed, suspended-from-the-ceiling tree costume) at a Royal City show at the Jane Bond in Waterloo, Ontario.

Boy, can that brother captivate an audience. He had us laughing, singing along and so, so quiet as we sat in awe of his complete and utter faith. At one point, you could have cut the amazement with a knife.

Plus, his little daughter was there and she is so very cute.
